The Genting in Leicester is the other side of the shopping precinct from the Gala Leicester site, and is a little more limited in scale. It’s really rather nice inside, but that’s only after you find the place…
I’ve nothing against Leicester in principle, but it is the hardest place to navigate in the UK, surely. The street signs lie, I swear, and there’s some sort of Bermuda Triangle thing going on with satnavs – either they don’t show you the right roads, or several times I ended up in the wrong lane and was dragged off the road I wanted to be on. Maybe it’s just me.

Anyway, the site has a quite unusual entrance where you go down a few steps to the reception desk, then up a few steps back onto the same level you started on, then up stairs to the gaming floor. I reckon it’s some sort of drunk-trap, like you have in your kitchen sink, with it being too confusing for your average idiot to navigate.
Once you’re upstairs, the main floor is quite modestly sized, with a very pleasant bar area with some comfy seating. The menu is very limited, it’s not really a restaurant as such, but the place seems to revolve around gaming rather than being a full service casino – nothing wrong with that. It’s a six table job, with chatty staff, certainly to each other, but then there weren’t many players in early in the afternoon. The place opens at 11, with tables available from 12.
There was a mix of old and new slots, with some great bookie style games, which were on voucher payouts (with the main slots being coin payout, although that’s going to change soon apparently.)
For a smaller – basically one room – site it’s really well done, and either must have been refurbished recently or not get much foot traffic, as it looks brand new. There are TVs everywhere, and it feels like the sort of place that’d be great for a punt and a beer, watching the footie and taking it easy.
